The 34th Georgia Infantry Regiment was organized on May 17, 1862. Company B drew men mainly from Cherokee County, Georgia.

They were captured at Vicksburg on July 4, 1863. They were paroled later that month and were declared exchanged on September 12, 1863. They were also involved in the battle of Smithfield, North Carolina, on April 9, 1865, where they were consolidated with the 42nd and 56th Georgia Infantry Regiments.
