The 34th Georgia Infantry Regiment was organized on May 17, 1862. Company B drew men mainly from Cherokee County, Georgia. The 34th Georgia was involved in the following battles:

Vicksburg Campaign ~ May-July, 1863

Siege of Vicksburg ~ May-July, 1863

Siege of Chattanooga ~ September-November, 1863

Chattanooga ~ November 23-25, 1863

New Hope Church ~ May 25-June 4, 1864

Atlanta ~ July 22, 1864

Siege of Atlanta ~ July-September, 1864

Jonesboro ~ August 31-September 1, 1864

Nashville ~ December 15-16, 1864

Carolinas Campaign ~ February-April, 1865

Bentonville ~ March 19-21, 1865

They were captured at Vicksburg on July 4, 1863. They were paroled later that month and were declared exchanged on September 12, 1863. They were also involved in the battle of Smithfield, North Carolina, on April 9, 1865, where they were consolidated with the 42nd and 56th Georgia Infantry Regiments.
